How to connect BluSky Trading Co. to NinjaTrader 8 in 5 steps

  1. Sign BluSky’s Rithmic agreements

    BluSky requires the Rithmic agreements before your Rithmic data works in any platform, including NinjaTrader. Sign them on Rithmic’s web page, or in R|Trader Pro with your Rithmic user and password and Gateway Chicago Area. Select BluSky for a login assigned to that system, Rithmic Paper Trading for an account still assigned there, or Rithmic 01 for a Live Brokerage account. BluSky asks simulated-account traders to sign as Non-Professional and classes Live Brokerage traders as professional subscribers. After this one-time check, close R|Trader Pro; the direct PropFirmConnector setup below does not require it to stay open.

  2. Install PropFirmConnector

    From your PropFirmConnector account, download PropFirmConnector.zip and close NinjaTrader completely. Extract the ZIP, then copy NinjaTrader.Custom-pfc.dll to My Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom. Start NinjaTrader again and, when your browser opens, click Activate this device.

  3. Open NinjaTrader 8 and sign in

    Start NinjaTrader 8 and sign in with your NinjaTrader account credentials when prompted. These are your NinjaTrader credentials, not the Rithmic username and password issued by BluSky Trading Co..

  4. Configure Rithmic for BluSky

    In the NinjaTrader Control Center, select Connections, then configure. Select Rithmic for NinjaTrader Brokerage, enter the Rithmic user and password for your account, and give the connection a recognizable name. Select BluSky for a login assigned to the dedicated BluSky system. Select Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago) for an account still assigned there, or Rithmic 01 (Chicago) for a Live Brokerage account on Rithmic. If BluSky is missing, close and reopen NinjaTrader with PropFirmConnector activated to refresh the list. Leave Plug-in mode off.

  5. Connect to BluSky Trading Co.

    Open Connections again and click the connection name you just created. A green status indicator and the account appearing in NinjaTrader confirm the connection.

If your BluSky Trading Co. connection is not working

Should Plug-in mode be on or off?
Off. Plug-in mode shares a running R|Trader Pro session with NinjaTrader, which is a different setup from PropFirmConnector’s direct connection. In Connections > Configure, select your Rithmic connection, uncheck Plug-in mode, click OK and connect again. Some firm and Rithmic instructions turn it on for their R|Trader Pro workflow; leave it off for PropFirmConnector.
The connection is green, but the account isn’t in NinjaTrader’s Accounts tab.
Your NinjaTrader login is probably missing the general Rithmic entitlement, so the Accounts tab often shows only Sim101. In NinjaTrader, open Help > About. The Entitlements line should say Evaluation (Rithmic); if it doesn’t, the connection can turn green without showing your accounts. Older NinjaTrader accounts don’t have this entitlement by default, but newly registered accounts do. The fix is in your NinjaTrader account, not in Rithmic or your firm’s dashboard, and you only do it once.

If Evaluation (Rithmic) is missing:

  • Import this license key at account.ninjatrader.com: click your initials, then Settings > Plans > Import license key. Paste the key, click Import, then close and restart NinjaTrader.

  • No Import license key button, or still missing? Trading mainly with prop firms? Your NinjaTrader login doesn’t matter, so the fastest fix is to create a new NinjaTrader account with a different email and sign in with it.
  • Keeping your current login, for example because it has a live account on it? Email platformsupport@ninjatrader.com with your NinjaTrader username and ask them to enable the general Rithmic entitlement.

BluSky is missing from the System list.
With PropFirmConnector activated, close and reopen NinjaTrader to load the current System list. Select BluSky only for a login assigned to that system. If it is missing in R|Trader Pro, update R|Trader Pro from Rithmic.
Rithmic data or the login fails in every platform.
Sign BluSky’s Rithmic agreements first: BluSky requires them before Rithmic data works in any platform, including NinjaTrader. On a Mac, sign them on the web.
BluLive credentials fail on Rithmic 01.
BluLive is a simulated stage. Select the System assigned to its login: BluSky, or Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago) if it is still on that system. Rithmic 01 (Chicago) is for a Live Brokerage account on Rithmic.
Your Rithmic Sim Funded account has not arrived.
BluSky emails you when a Rithmic Sim Funded account is ready and asks you to wait until the next trading day before contacting support. Use the System assigned to the new credentials: BluSky or Rithmic Paper Trading (Chicago).
The Live Brokerage account does not appear.
Complete BluSky’s Live Brokerage onboarding, then verify the live login in R|Trader Pro on Rithmic 01 and sign any pending agreements. Use that login in NinjaTrader with PropFirmConnector activated and System Rithmic 01 (Chicago).
